Kota Kinabalu: Leaders Papar have the opportunity to further distance themselves from the rest of the pack in the KDM Malaysia Football League this weekend when they meet Sandakan. But they must overcome the hurdles if they are to remain numero uno (the number one).

Sandakan, fourth from the bottom of the table, are certainly no pushovers.

Their last match with Kemabong, three rungs above them, ended in a 1-1 draw last weekend.

Papar also should bear in mind that Sandakan have nothing to lose.

They will be playing for pride and honour despite their current position in the lucrative NGO-organised league.

Papar sits on top of the table with 31 points but second-placed Keningau are not too far behind in points.

They has 30 points and a match in hand.

Kota Marudu, third on the charts, have 28 points while former leaders Penampang A, in fourth place, have 26 points.

Kota Belud, Bandaraya and KDM Pusat are also potential threats to the throne.

However, Papar could ease down a little bit because Keningau, Kota Marudu, Penampang A and Kota Belud will be resting this weekend.

Their team rivals have no scheduled matches this weekend.

So, Papar should take advantage and stock up on the points, provided they could get past Sandakan.

Papar's form took a dip in recent matches and this raises the question if they are capable of maintaining their momentum.

Hence, their meeting with the east coast team, Sandakan, will be closely followed this weekend. This weekend also, four other matches have been scheduled.

The matches area between Kiulu and Tambunan, Penampang B vs Kimanis, Inanam vs Pitas and Bandaraya vs Putatan.
