Sandakan: Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth Chief, Yamani Hafez Musa (pic), said efforts to unearth new talents in karate must be enhanced.Speaking at the closing of the Sandakan Senior Open Karate Championship 2015 at Sandakan community hall, he said the Sabah Karate Association (SKA) could achieve this goal.

However, the karate fraternity should all lend their firm support to the SKA's endeavour, he said.

Sabah, he said, has always been a powerhouse in the martial art sport and produced exponents to represent the country at the international scene.

To this, he said that the SKA must be supported of its plan and long term objectives.

He said the Senior Open championship is among efforts by Sandakan SKA to unearth new talents.

The senior open is being held in conjunction with the 14th Sabah Youth Karate Cadet and Under-21 competition.

Police won the competition with six gold, one silver and four bronze medals.

Sandakan came second with two gold, one silver and four bronze medals.

Kota Kinabalu is third with one gold and one silver medals.

Meanwhile, Hafez said youths should be encouraged to join martial art sport.

"This must be promoted to produce more youths in the sport," he said.

Following the competition, Tenom SKA is now ranked first among karate associations in Sabah while SKA Tambunan is second and SKA Tamparuli in third place.
