Tawau: Four immigration officers have been arrested in Lahad Datu following complaints that Pakistanis have been getting dubious long-term social visit passes to stay in the State. It was learnt that the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) had confiscated two cheques for RM175,000 and RM7,500 during a raid on the suspects' house on Monday.

The MACC also seized cash amounting to RM50,000 from another house and several related files from the Lahad Datu Immigration Department's office for investigation.

The arrests came after MACC received a complaint that throughout last year quite a number of Pakistanis had been given long-term social visit passes through their local wives.

In reality, however, no such applications were made and the women were also not their wives, it was learnt.

The four immigration officers and a woman clerk were remanded for a week, Tuesday.

Magistrate Ferhansha Farene Mohd Ferdaus granted the remand application made by Investigating Officer Norsham Saharom from the MACC.

The suspects aged between 29 and 56 and attached to the Lahad Datu Immigration Department were detained in Lahad Datu between 3.45pm and 4.10pm.

They were remanded to facilitate in the investigation under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for asking bribes.
