MP barred from entering Sabah
Kota Kinabalu: The State Government invoked its immigration rights and denied entry to DAP national vice chairperson, Teresa Kok, who was asked to board the next flight back soon upon arrival at the Sandakan Airport on Wednesday. Kok, who is also the MP for Seputeh, arrived at the Sandakan Airport on the 2.50pm AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur but was asked to take the next flight out at about 4pm.

Sandakan MP Stephen Wong, who was at the airport to welcome Kok, said when contacted that no reason was given by the immigration officers except that "it was instructions from the higher-ups."

State Immigration Director Noor Alam Khan could not be reached.

Wong also complained that he was barred from accompanying Kok when she was being "talked to" inside a room in the airport.

"It's very rude of them, I am the elected representative but they would not allow me in," he said.

Kok was supposed to officiate at the formation of the DAP Sandakan Wanita movement on Wednesday night.

Wong demanded for explanation from the State Government.

"I am really disappointed. Is she a terrorist and doing crime in Sabah? Apparently it is political suppression against her and exploiting her right as a citizen," said Wong.

"Although we agree that Sabah has autonomy on immigration as promised in the 20 Points and Constitution, it should not be used as a political tool to oppress an opposition leader.

"She hasn't done any illegal practice in Sabah. It is obviously double standards when so many illegal immigrants can easily enter Sabah without documents and Teresa is treated in a different way," he said.

At the same time, Wong demanded that the Sabah Immigration Department reveal the list of banned politicians, especially from opposition parties, immediately.

Also, DAP Sabah wants the State Government to remove Kok and any other political leaders from the blacklist and respect the spirit of the law behind the Constitution.

"Will the State Government dare to bar Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri from entering Sabah for his racist remarks as well as Ibrahim Ali from Perkasa? Will the same standards be applied?" he asked.
