Kota Kinabalu: Putatan MP Datuk Dr Marcus Mojigoh said he would rather jump off a building or into the sea than join an opposition party.Having said that, he, however, lashed out at those provoking him to do so even now.

The Upko vice president cum treasurer-general said he had his principle that "the more they do that the more I make noise."

"I have said it loud and clear and when I comment on things that does not mean I don't understand," he said when asked to comment on the call for him to join the opposition if he was not happy with the Barisan Nasional (BN).

Mojigoh had said that unless some drastic changes occur before the 14th General Election, this term would be his last and that he would rather give the post to a young and energetic leader to continue bringing development to Putatan.

"They questioned me for raising the issue of (DAP national vice chairperson) Teresa Kok being banned from entering Sabah. Let me ask first, are you scared of Teresa Kok?

"Well, if you are, then there should be no problem but if you are not scared, then why should you ban her? I simply cannot understand this.

"We are not weak. We are much better than Teresa Kok and we (BN) can answer to whatever issues DAP is raising about Sabah. So is there a need for me to join DAP," he said when met after attending the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Welfare Unit Chinese New Year celebration, here, Wednesday.

According to him, the approach of barring politicians from entering was the old way of doing things, which is no longer applicable to the younger generation.

"The young people now, they don't like this style. They want to be able to talk and to express themselves freely. Let Teresa Kok come here and it is up to the people to decide," he said.

To a question, Mojigoh said his stand was purely personal and it was up to the Upko leadership if they want to take action against him.

"It is up to Upko or BN to take disciplinary action against me. I am just a leader for the people…I am waiting for the show-cause letter, if they don't like what I say," he said.

Mojigoh, however, said the Upko leadership know him quite well and that he has no conflict with them.

To another question, he said he was seen to be really against the BN this time because he had been confronted by the people about issues that really affected them such as the alleged conversion of the SIB student in SMK Kinarut, and the statement of a Federal Minister blaming the Chinese traders for causing the rise of the price of goods, among others.

"Of course, the opposition would always want to fan things but we can defend it," he said.

Meanwhile, he urged the people to take advantage of the facilities and services provided by the UTC Welfare Unit here.

"This is a one-stop welfare centre and I think it is a very good initiative under the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry. It really reaches the people," he said.
