Ranau: The Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry will seek the assistance of cooking oil suppliers in the city to address a shortage in the resort district of Ranau. Cooking oil supplies are presently rationed with stores limiting sales to two packets per customer last week due to the long Chinese New Year holidays recently. The Ministry issued the instruction to do rationing after officers from its Tuaran office were deployed on Monday following reports that cooking oil has run out, including from the 1Malaysia People Sundry Shop (KR1M). ADVERTISEMENT They anticipated supplies would only be replenished this week. Consumers in Ranau had voiced their concerns over the low supply of cooking oil as many shops were closed during the holidays, including suppliers and distributors. The Ministry's State Director Severinus Tukah, who forwarded a short report from his men on the ground, claimed the supply of 1kg cooking oil had run out while the bottled product was presently running low. "Investigation is still ongoing. We hope our city office will instruct suppliers to give attention to deliver cooking oil supplies to Ranau, if needed," Tukah said, citing the message forwarded to him. "It has not run out since the Chinese New Year," said Paulus, adding that supplies may have run out in other stores but not Milimewa.

According to Paulus, Milimewa would only get around 20 to 30 cartons on a 50-carton order, adding that late deliveries of fresh supplies are common, especially after a long holiday. He said most stores often made abnormal orders of supplies ahead of upcoming holidays.
