Govt should give full recognition to UEC: Teo

Kota Kinabalu: Chinese-based political parties in the country have been urging for the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) repeatedly, said Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Datuk Teo Chee Kang. Teo said LDP, MCA, Gerakan and Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) all shared the same stance on this issue. "UEC is recognised by many renowned universities in the world, which accept students with UEC into first year of undergraduate studies. ADVERTISEMENT "As such, the government should give full recognition to UEC as soon as possible," Teo said in a press statement here Wednesday.Teo, who is also the Minister of Special Tasks, said he has highlighted the reasons to recognise UEC during the LDP Congress last year and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who was the guest of honour at the event, has given his due attention to the matter. Teo added that LDP has also resolved to pursue the recognition of UEC during the party congress. Nonetheless, Teo said the details and technical issues must be clarified in order to resolve this matter. On another note, Teo said education is under the purview of the Federal government.
