Another M'sian dies in Syria

Kuala Lumpur: A sixth Malaysian fighting in Syria was reported to have died after succumbing to injuries he sustained in August.Known by his nom de guerre, Abu Aishah, he was with four other Malaysians when pro Syrian government forces launched a torrent of mortar shells near Hama in August last year.

Abu Aishah was critically wounded in the incident and broke his thigh bone.

The last Malaysian to have died on Syrian soil was Abu Turob, whose real name is Zainan Harith who succumbed to chest and neck injuries in September last year.

With Abu Aishah in the August incident were Abu Ain and Abu Talhah, as well as Dewan Ulama Pas member Mohd Lotfi Ariffin. All three sustained injuries.

A spokesman for the group of Malaysian fighting in Syria said Abu Aishah died in Hospital.

"Abu Aishah died a martyr while undergoing surgery to save his life after he sustained injuries in an attack in the town of Arzeh five months ago.

"He was a close friend of Ustaz Mat (Lotfi), who came with him to Syria," he said in a Facebook posting yesterday.

Meanwhile, Facebook supporters of Malaysians fighting in Syria celebrated his "martyrdom", saying that, while they had lost a friend, they were happy for him and envied his martyrdom.

Abu Aishah is the sixth Malaysian to have died in Syria.

Two died as suicide bombers.

One was Ahmad Affendi Abdull Manaff, 27, was believed to have driven a bomb-laden truck into a military installation in Homs, killing about 50 soldiers loyal to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.

The other was Ahmad Tarmimi Maliki, 26, believed to be linked to the Islamic State. he was said to have blown up 52 elite Iraqi soldiers at Iraq's SWAT headquarters in al-Anbar on May 26 last year.

The youngest Malaysian killed in Syria Mohammad Fadhlan Shahidi, 21, known by his nom de guerre, Abu Muhajir. He died in an ambush by pro-syrian government forces in September when the lorry he was in was hit by tank fire.
