60 uncensored films for sale: 2 Filipinos fined

Kota Kinabalu: Two Filipino Bajaus were sentenced to five months' jail each by the Magistrate's Court for having for sale 60 uncensored films in DVDs.Aljibar Mal, 26, and Robert Ronaldo, 21, both jobless, admitted before Magistrate Mohd Faiz Omar to having the films without the required 'B' certificate from the Film Censorship Board.

They had committed the offence at 6pm on Feb 22 at Kg Numbak, Alamesra, here. They were charged under Section 18(4)(a) of the Film Censorship Act 2002, which provides for a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000 or up to three years' jail, or both, if found guilty.

In another case, three men were fined and jailed for having syabu.

Francis Yohanes, 30, and Aripin Jassi, 28, were ordered to pay a fine of RM3,000 or six months' jail each for having 0.12gm of syabu in a car at the Penampang Bypass at 11.30pm on Nov 12 last year.

Iryan Mustaqim Matsani, 23, who pleaded guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, was sentenced to four months' jail for having 0.12gm of syabu at 10.15pm on Jan 17 at Taman Sri Maju in Sepanggar.

Meanwhile, Francis, Aripin, Arnajil Apung, Mohd Lan Ali, Rizuan Jamaludin, Jaemar Abet, Johny Flores Muarip and Hamri Apong admitted to taking syabu between Dec Nov 12 last year and Jan 17.

Francis, Aripin and Rizuan were fined RM2,000 each, while Hamri was fined RM1,800 or three months' jail.

Arnajil and Mohd Lan were jailed four months each while Jaemar and Johny were handed three months' jail each.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Sabrina Jinius, Inspectors Azaman Hamat and Jakariya Jupakkal appeared for the prosecution.
