Kuching: The government is working hard to create an ecosystem that is conducive to producing more successful entrepreneurs in the future. This is in addition to its ambition of making Malaysia a hub, particularly within Asean, for the birth of innovations by new entrepreneurs to be introduced to the world, says Treasury Secretary General, Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Siregar.

He said in the case of developed countries, they are always emphasising on an environment that is entrepreneur friendly, especially for the young in the field.

He added that the Asean Entrepreneurs Summit planned for around year-end in Kuala Lumpur can help pave the way for the formation of a more extensive network among entrepreneurs in the Asean countries.

"We can gather renowned experts from universities and successful entrepreneurs to rollout Asean entrepreneurial programmes.

"They can provide briefings, share ideas and create that winning environment for entrepreneurs participating in the Summit," he added.

Mohd Irwan was speaking at a media conference here after launching the 1Malaysia Entrepreneurs (1MET) Bootcamp 3.0 programme at the UTC Sarawak.

The 1MET is an initiative under the Ninth National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in 2013 in conjunction with the Fourth Global Entrepreneurs Conference.

The 1MET programme today saw strong participation with more than 1000 present and exceeding the initial expectation of just 500, according to Mohd Irwan.

He said the programme had attracted more than 5,000 participants since its inception and all of them were being closely monitored to ensure they received sufficient exposure and information to progress in their respective fields.

"We will contact those with good, potential business ideas and promote them, by bringing them to Kuala Lumpur for exposure or be introduced to keen investors," Mohd Irwan added. – Bernama
