Kuala Lumpur: The Asean-Japan Centre (AJC), formerly known as the Asean Promotion Centre on Trade, Investment and Tourism will continue to invite top-ranking Asean officials and experts to Tokyo and other cities to update them on their respective countries' investment policies and incentives."The centre always organises investment seminars here (Japan) to provide up-to-date information to Japanese investors regarding investment opportunities in each of the Asean member country," said AJC Director for the Trade and Investment Division Songkane Luangmuninthone.

He said Malaysia, which assumed the Asean chair this year, should also play an important role in promoting investment inflow between Asean and Japan, as well as, dispatch more missions to the land of the rising sun.

The experts would also touch about the Asean Economic Community (AEC), which is to be established by year-end, beside providing other relevant information to the Japanese business community and promote Asean as one.

"It is also equally important for the business people to clearly understand everything about the AEC or community building.

"Many years back, Japanese businessmen only thought about one particular Asean country not Asean as an entity.

"So, that is why we are trying to educate them, to look towards Asean as one and not as 10 individual countries," he said during a meeting with Asean journalists participating in a programme organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) in Tokyo recently.

The centre will also launch Asean's one-stop information database next month on AJC's website which, among others, will stipulate the laws and regulations governing each of the 10 member countries.

"Information pertaining to investments in every Asean country will be listed in that database. Despite the shrinking budget every year ... and we have less and less money to spend, all of us have to strive and work really hard to promote Asean as one in Japan," he stressed.

Meanwhile, Asean -Japan Centre Secretary General Yoshikuni Ohnishi said this year would be memorable especially with the launch of the Asean Community. – Bernama
