Sarawak: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he has every right to defend himself and his family by demanding Harakahdaily to retract an article on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) deemed defamatory. "What was written were slanderous. It was wrong, not based on facts and without any proof," he said when asked on his demand to the PAS party organ.

Najib through his lawyers handed over a letter of demand to Harakahdaily managing director Dr Rosli Yaakop demanding a written apology.

He also demanded the retraction of its article 'Dana 1MDB Biaya Syarikat Filem Riza Aziz (Bhg 2)' (1MDB Funding Riza Aziz's Film Production Company) published on Feb 19. Riza is Najib's stepson.

The article was a commentary piece by Rosli based on a New York Times article on businessman Low Taek Jho's role as a property investor published on Feb 12.

Low, who is known as Jho Low, is a close associate of Najib and was said to have had transactions with various parties, including Riza.

Riza, the son of Najib's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor from her earlier marriage, made headlines last year after he was revealed to be a producer of the award-winning movie.

"The Wolf of Wall Street" and his purchase of a luxury condominium in New York worth RM110 million.

The New York Times article, titled "Well connected at home, young Malaysian has an appetite for New York", described how Low in 2010 began making some very expensive real estate deals in the US using shell companies.

Meanwhile, the PM has asked the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, to investigate and act on the allegation that there is a school operating without complete infrastructure and the classes have no walls and are in a tent in Tuaran, Sabah.

Najib, in his Twitter account, said: "TS KSN@AliHamsa55 investigate and take action to assist, if true. This should not happen."

Najib issued the instruction in his reaction to the owner of the Twitter @saroki19 Friday after sending a picture of the condition of the school with the hashtag #SchoolWithNoWall to the Prime Minister.

Saroki19 published the photograph, one of which showed a classroom with zinc roof and steel pillar without walls and equipped with several wooden desks, plastic chairs, white board and wall fan.

Another photograph showed a classroom operating under a tent.

Yet another showed a signboard with the wordings: 'Selamat Datang. Sekolah Kebangsaan Penimbawan, Peti Surat 130, 89208, Tuaran, Sabah'.

However, Saroki19 did not explain the photograph shown, the location of the school and the date the photograph was taken.

The Prime Minister made a one-day visit to Sarawak Friday and officiated several programs including laying the foundation stone for the Hospital Pakar Minor Sri Aman costing RM200 million, in Sri Aman.
