Yeh calls for greater unity among Hokkiens

Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu Hokkien Association Chairman Datuk Clement Yeh on Thursday paid tribute to the community's indomitable spirit.He said it was this sense of drive which has seen the community grow from strength to strength."I am very proud that in the previous year, I saw all members working very hard in carrying out their duties, resulting in the association moving one step further," said Yeh.ADVERTISEMENT Towards this end, he called for greater unity among them and to go all out to help each other achieve higher goals in the future.Yeh said this during the Kota Kinabalu Hokkien Association's Chinese New Year Celebration held at the Kian Kok Middle School here. He also expressed his gratitude to all, especially the women and youth divisions, for their efforts over the past years in successfully conducting their conferences.At the event, gifts and red packets were distributed to children as well as the elderly aged 65 and above.ADVERTISEMENT The association's deputy president Datuk Mary Ling explained that respecting the elderly has been part of the traditional virtue of Chinese culture.She said though the country faced a couple of misfortunes last year overall there is still stability within society and the economy compared to other countries.
