Kota Kinabalu: The region's most lucrative NGO-organised KDM Malaysia Football League is being resumed this week with the Keningau and Kota Belud clash the main focus.Keningau are currently second on the table with 33 points and the nearest contender to leaders Papar, who are five points ahead of the interior team.

With three matches in hand, Keningau would not want to squander the opportunity to close the gap.

Kota Belud, nevertheless, can turn a party spoiler for Keningau, especially now that they have found their rhythm.

The match, consequently, will be mostly anticipated among the six matches scheduled for this weekend.

But one thing for sure, neither teams would want to concede, as otherwise its progress in the league would be punctuated.

This, both teams will at any cost, want to avoid, considering the race is almost even among the teams.

Any slip ups would see them sliding down the ladder so fast that climbing up will be a mountainous task.

Close on Papar heels are Kota Marudu with 29 points and sitting on third spot.

They will meet underdogs Sandakan, who have nothing to lose except pride.

But playing hide and seek with a wounded tiger is no ride in the park and Kota Marudu should always heed the wisdom of the elders that it is better to feel safe than sorry.

A three points in the pouch will consolidate their position and reduce the gap.

The weekend will also see KDM Pusat in a tussle with Kimanis.

KDM Pusat are among teams, albeit of its position on seventh rung, who are voraciously and ferociously clawing its way to the top.

The adage "Never Judge a Book by its Cover" befits this team, who gave Papar a real deal for their money in the first round of the league.

But can they maintain their momentum? It will be determined this weekend.

Other matches are Kiulu against Kemabong, Putatan vs Inanam, Penampang B vs Tambunan and Bandaraya against Penampang A.

The league that offers a total cash prize of RM500,000 started since September last year involving 16 teams.
