Kuala Lumpur: Members of the Police Volunteer Reserve must have a high level of commitment and responsibility in carrying out their duties in protecting the image of the police force, even though they may busy with their respective official duties, said Kuala Lumpur PVR commandant, Supt Dr Ong Gua Pak. He said duties borne by PVR is to help the police keep the peace in the country and responsibilities shouldered by them are equal to the duties of policemen.

"People sometimes cannot differentiate between the volunteer police and the police. Therefore PVR members, especially those newly appointed, must maintain discipline when carrying out their duties to protect the image of the police force," he told Bernama after attending the graduation parade PVR series 1 and 2 PVR members at the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters Sunday.

Ong, who is also the secreatary of the Finance Division, Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, said people were welcome to join the PVR to assist the police in law enforcement as well as ensuring peace and security in their localities.

He said those who are keen in joining the PVR can contact the district police headquarters nearby to obtain further information on the recruitment of new members. So far, there are about 1,140 PVR members in Kuala Lumpur.

Yashmin Fauzi, 26, who was found in a pool of blood in front of her house by her husband, Mohd Azrul Isahak, 30, at 2.40am was believed to have put up a fight with the assailants.

Mohd Azrul who had started his duty at 1am at the station, had an uneasy feeling about the safety of his wife, and decided to come home to check out her condition but was shocked to find her body.

Police believe the assailants had carried the victim and dumped her on the drive-way of the house.

Mohd Azrul immediately rushed his wife to the Gua Musang Hospital but she succumbed to her injuries at 6.40am.
