Kota Belud: The welfare for some 13,000 fire and rescue personnel will improve through the proposal of special allowances equal to that received by the police and army. Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said paper work on the proposal will be tabled this year. "The Fire and Rescue Department has a huge number of officers and personnel who are everywhere in the country. ADVERTISEMENT "We still cannot see welfare for personnel in the department as equal with the welfare for police, army and other security enforcement forces," he said during the launching of a Fire Safety Awareness Campaign and distribution of fire extinguishers at the Dewan SK Pulau Mantanani, here. "They face high risks, such as lifelong injury and death caused by chemical explosions, among others. "Apart from that, they are also faced with risks of extreme trauma when faced with heart-wrenching road accidents, they are normally the first to respond and handle the victims. "There are among them whose psychology changes forever due to being exposed to numerous traumatic incidents.
