The track events is from Mar 2-3.

President of KDM Malaysia, Datuk Peter Anthony, said sports is important to the present generation who will inherit the future.

So, it is important to inculcate sports among the pupils or younger generation so that it become part of their lives, he said.

"By getting involved in sports, our lives would be healthier and much more active," he said.

Hence, he said, it is important that sports is inculcated at school level.

He said the schools, then, must become prime mover to inspire and foster the love of sports among pupils and students.

And to those who exceptionally excel in sports, school authorities should spur them to aim for greater heights.

Acting Secretary-General to the association, Enneycia Doulus, read his speech.

Kota Kinabalu Education Officer, Bad Hamid Musli, said sports today is no longer a hobby or recreational activity.

"It has become a healthy lifestyle and an investment on health as well as to the person (s) economy," he said.

As a matter of fact, sports can become a lucrative source of income, he said.

Unlike in the past where athletes strive for excellence for different reasons and goals, athletes today are presented with a variety of benefits and become wealthy if they strive diligently pursuing their career in sports.

It's totally a different ball game today.

To this, Bad Hamid said pupils should have in their hearts the zest and enthusiasm to excel in their choice of sports if they want to etch their names among sporting greats.

"But in order to achieve that, you must be diligent in your efforts and to pay full attention to your training," he said.
