Sabah junior squash players in commendable show

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah junior squash players produced some creditable performances in the opening leg of the 2015 CIMB National Junior Rising Stars circuit held at the Bukit Jalil squash courts from Feb 26-March 1.Nadiah Abdullah from Tawau sprang a pleasant surprise when she defied expectations and made it to the playoffs on the final day to finish sixth in the Girls Under-9 event. Fellow teammates from Kota Kinabalu, Danial Danish Ali (Boys Under-9) and Nur Izati Abdul Karim (Girls Under- 11) also performed well to emerge in eighth position.ADVERTISEMENT Another Sandakan lass Yee Xin Ying finished a credible 11th position in the Girls Under-13 event while her brother, Yee Zheng Hong had a tougher time to emerge 16th in Boys Under-13 event.The more seasoned Euvian Liaw (BU11), Etain Tay (GU11) and Tristan Anderias (BU9) all had encouraging displays to finish 16th, 18th and 17th positions in their respectively categories. According to team manager Norlida Ismail who led the team with coach Arsian Khan Jhodi, a few players making their debut had learnt valuable lessons with Eudodia Lai (GU9) emerging in 24th position while Gary Fitzgerald Ganing (BU9) and Fernando Richard (BU13) managed to secure a win or two in the competition.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

She added that Elijah Vivin Vincent (BU11) battled hard and was narrowly edged out from the 2nd round in the main draw by Aiden Yunus from Selangor. And from then on, Elijah played superbly, winning each round to secure the best possible ranking at a lowly 33rd position. ADVERTISEMENT Other Sabah players who did well were Jeremy Wong (23rd in BU9), Kong Ken Hao (Sandakan, BU9), Mohd Akid Izz Zulkifli (Tawau, BU11), Douglas Lee (BU11), Rachel Richard (GU9), Syahirah Amirah (21st in GU9), Adawiyah Aqilah (GU9), Mohd Azib Bin Ladin (BU13), Adam Amrie Goh(BU13) and Rebecca Lai (GU13).
