Most fake MyKads in Keningau

Keningau: State National Registration Director Ismail Ahmad revealed that the district had the most number of foreigners possessing fake Mykads or ICs."I can confirm this," he said at a meet-the-people session in collaboration with the district National Registration Department, here, Wednesday. Without giving any figure, Ismail said the detection was done through ongoing operations conducted by the security forces and his department.ADVERTISEMENT To a question, he said the identification cards' application receipt used by foreigners was not valid and advised the police to arrest them before referring them to the NRD for verification.He also denied that the NRD was issuing the receipts to illegal immigrants.Based on NRD Sabah's latest record Sabah's total population is 3.2 million compared 2.5 million in 2010. Of the total, 700,000 were foreigners and 200,000 believed to be illegal immigrants.Ismail said in an effort to update the issuance of birth certificates and identification cards, the NRD strived to ensure that only genuine citizens get the documents.ADVERTISEMENT On another note, he said the use of "bin" in the identity card was not a religious issue and not compulsory for the applicants to use.Furthermore, the "bin" can be dropped by those who think it was not necessary to have the word in their names.

"You can come to the nearest NRD office to do this and we are willing to help," he said. Previously, affected members of the public had complained that they faced much hassle in removing the "Bin" and "Binti" as they had to prove that they were indeed non-Muslim.Regarding the collaboration programme, Ismail said it was a mobile programme to register citizens living in far-flung areas in the interior.He said the department has 15 pick-up trucks around the State for this purpose.Towards this end, he advised grassroots leaders to assist the NRD ensure every birth in their respective areas is reported to the department.Met later, Ismail said the birth certificates had been colour-coded to differentiate foreigners (red) and citizens (green)."It is quite easy for us to know their status (with the colour-code system)," he said.Liawan Assemblyman Datuk Sairin Karno when declaring open the programme called on all community leaders to give their fullest commitment to ensure that all people under their care have birth certificates and identity cards."I want these grassroots leaders to fully carry out their duties," he said.He also called on the people to reject the opposition and strengthen unity.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Sairin, who is also Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Minister, said that in addition to being proactive to government policies the people also need to be creative in enhancing economic standing, without relying too much on government assistance.Also on hand were District Officer Haji Yusop Osman, Liawan Community Development Leader (PPM), Sahanip Jamil, Bingkor PPM, Kennedy Datuk John Angian as well as state and federal government department officers.
