Kota Kinabalu: Students of SMK Kundasang may have to wait for the completion of their new school a little longer after experts found the soil at a new location in Kampung Mesilau was 'unsuitable'.For about one year students have been taking their lessons from the SMK Agama Ranau premises after their old school was shut down due to a similar problem.

The old premises was declared unsafe ahead of the opening of the 2014 schooling session.

Education Director Datuk Jame Alip said officers from the Department of Mineral and Geoscience did a study on the new school grounds and said certain parts of the ground were unsuitable.

They suggested blueprints for the new block be modified, he added.

"On March 10, a meeting with consultants will be held to look into the recommendations.

"We hope we can come out with a new design and formulate a new development plan to be approved for new construction," he said.

In early 2014, the teachers and students were promised a new block would be ready by March.

Students and teachers have since been going about their days sometimes without power supply or proper toilets and most of the classrooms are also dilapidated as SMK Agama is also in the midst of refurbishment.

Students also have had to travel to school by a bus with the fare subsidised by the Education Ministry.
