Blogger faces bankruptcy over AirAsia suit

Kuala Lumpur: Pro-Umno blogger Salahuddin Hisham (anotherbrickinwall.blogspot.com) is likely to be made a bankrupt if he does not pay damages to low cost carrier AirAsia Bhd, which has obtained a judgment against him in a defamation suit. In a statement, the company said it has proceeded to file bankruptcy proceedings against Salahuddin for failing to pay RM5 million in aggravated and exemplary damages. The Kuala Lumpur High Court last September awarded the sum to AirAsia after Salahuddin was found liable for his action.

Ahmat was ordered to serve a three-month jail term for being in contempt in publishing defamatory articles on former Information, Communication and Culture Minister Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim. Amizudin, 44, had to serve the prison term after he failed to obtain leave from the Federal Court to appeal against an earlier High Court decision, which had found him to be in contempt.
