New rice variant can withstand hot weather

Johor: The Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) will promote 'Aerob', a new rice variety which can withstand hot weather, to farmers in Johor.State Mardi Director Saniah Kormin said Aerob did not require lot of water unlike other rice variants."This variety is of the same quality like other rice variants, and it can survive in hot weather as it requires less water as compared to other rice variants.

"However, this variety has not been well received by farmers as some of them might not want to change to this new variety for fear the output is not as much as other varients," she told reporters during her visit to the Pagoh Community Rehabilitation Centre here Thursday.Saniah said Mardi would continue to promote the Aerob variety among farmers in the State. – BernamaShe said Mardi planned to plant the rice on a large scale at unused rice fields to enable farmers to see the results.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"At the same time, we will continue with our research to find more rice varieties with better quality to bring more profit in the future," she added.
