Sandakan: Efficient and effective public health programmes are crucial to ensure the public receives optimal physical and mental health care because a healthy society guarantees a stronger and progressive country.Batu Sapi MP Datuk Linda Tsen said the Government is constantly looking for ways to increase the health quality of the people, including establishing 1Malaysia Clinic (K1M) nationwide.

"It is hoped the establishment of K1M in Bandar Leila will help reduce the workload and patients' waiting time in health clinics, especially in Sandakan Health Clinic," she said during the opening of the K1M Bandar Leila, here.

The much-improved K1M saw the premises expanded to include another shoplot with additional areas for dispensary counter and waiting area. The pharmacy is also manned by a medical officer to focus on follow-up treatment for chronic patients such as those with high blood pressure and diabetic patients.

The clinic has one medical officer, two assistant medical officers, four staff nurses, two assistant pharmacy officers and two healthcare assistants.

A patient, Rosnah Sulaiman, 57, from Karamunting, said it is very convenient for her to receive medical treatment nowadays as the K1M Bandar Leila is very close to her house.

Prior to this, she and her family had to go to Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan for medical treatment.

Another patient, senior citizen Baiyah Jiman, 61, said she is very thankful for the facility which opens until 9pm and because of its location near her house.
