Kota Kinabalu: Three people, including a married couple, were arrested last week in connection with several break-in cases in the city recently. City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra said the trio were picked up after a police report was lodged by a 34-year-old man who claimed his unit at the Bambangan Apartment in Inanam had been broken into on March 18.

"Based on the report, he returned from work to find the door to his house locked from inside, prompting him to break the door open when he heard someone fleeing from the premises via the ceiling at about 6pm," he told a media conference after attending the 208th Police Day Anniversary held at the Kota Kinabalu Police Department here, Wednesday.

The man found his apartment ransacked and several items missing including two CD players, jewellery, clothes, cosmetics, perfume and handbag, all estimated to be worth RM10,000.

Chandra said an 18-year-old threw four handbags from her apartment unit which was located in one of the blocks in the apartment vicinity when a police team came to take her in for questioning.

Inspections showed that the handbags belonged to the man who had earlier lodged the report.

Police also confiscated several items believed to be stolen goods such as a drill machine, laptop, iron cutter, machete and perfume from the unit.

"Her arrest led to the detention of two men, aged 34 and 22, at about 11.15pm in Kg. Kalansanan in Inanam here on March 20," he said, adding that both tested positive for drugs.

"Investigations showed that the older man, believed to be her husband, has four crime convictions and one drug related conviction, while the younger man had no criminal record," he said.

Various items such as laptop, handphone and hard disc all worth about RM15,000 were seized from the duo.

Chandra said they are also believed to be involved in six break-ins involving an estimated loss of RM34,000.

Also present was his Deputy City Police Chief Supt. Azhar Hamin and Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division Chief DSP Kalsom Idris.
