Boh Awards honour five M'sian artistes

Kuala Lumpur: The 12th Boh Cameronian Arts Awards will next month pay tribute to five legendary artistes who developed the performing arts industry in the 1980s.They are Datuk Rahim Razali, Datuk Faridah Merican, Datin Marion D'Cruz, Normah Nordin and Chin San Sooi.Kakiseni President, Low Ngai Yuen said the five had significantly contributed to the development of performing arts, in particular, the field of dance, acting, directing, writing, singing and teaching.ADVERTISEMENT "They should serve as examples because they had helped develop the performing arts industry and paved the way for the industry to gain recognition internationally," he said when met after announcement of the nominees ceremony held here recently.According to Low, in recognition of their contribution, Boh will issue limited edition tea canisters specially designed to display their outstanding contributions in the 1980s. He said this time around, the award would introduce a new category known as new talent (Junior Cammies), in addition to the four other categories, namely dance, music, musical theatre and theatre."The new talent category recognises the achievements of students and teachers in secondary schools in the field of arts, apart from talented individuals from diverse backgrounds," he added.ADVERTISEMENT Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
