Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Builders Association (SBA) has called on the Government to delay the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) that will come into effect on April 1.Its newly elected President, Cheong Kwee Min, said the members unanimously agreed to the proposal as not all traders are prepared for the new tax structure. He said moreover, some of them still do not understand fully what GST is all about and how it will benefit them.ADVERTISEMENT "SBA members who attended the annual general meeting (AGM) fully agreed to such proposal and urged the Government to not hastily implement the GST."We also adopted this at our AGM cum election of office-bearers for the term of 2015-2016," he said in a statement, Thursday.Cheong said the members are also requesting the Government to consider increasing the limit of the yearly turnover from RM500,000 to register for GST, to at least RM2 million for construction companies. He said they are also calling on the relevant authorities to simplify the process of employing foreign workers, especially for the construction sector and to reduce the levy on these workers.ADVERTISEMENT This is because, Cheong said, the present levy and other fees in recruiting foreign workers are burdening the builders.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
