Semporna fire: Tents to be set up for all families

Semporna: Tents will be built for all families affected by the fire in Kampung Bangau-Bangau, here, to ensure that all victims had a place to stay before their homes are rebuild.Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, said the ministry was discussing with the Semporna District Council and Senallang State Assemblyman Datuk Seri Nasir Tun Sakaran to identify a suitable site to set up the tents."The victims are currently placed at the Semporna Community Hall, Semporna Youth Hall and the Bangau-Bangau Multi-purpose hall. We found the conditions at the relief centres to be congested.

"As such, we will put up the tents as soon as possible to ensure that all the victims have a more comfortable place to stay, with facilities provided," he told reporters after visiting the site of the fire and handing out food donations to the victims, here, Thursday.He said to date, 233 families had registered with the Semporna District Council and registration was still open until all the victims had registered."I urge victims who have not registered to do so immediately to facilitate the process of distributing aid. I want all the affected victims to get assistance so as to ease their burden," he said.Mohd Shafie who is also Semporna Member of Parliament, advised all victims at the relief centre to cooperate by ensuring cleanliness to avoid the spread of contagious diseases.
