Kota Kinabalu: Papar must be consistent with its winning streak if they are to maintain their numero uno position in the KDM Malaysia Football League.Any slacks in the points will render the leaders vulnerable to the rest of the vicious pack.

As Benjamin Franklin had said, "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail".

And Papar, for that matter, are in consonant to the wisdom of the founder of electricity.

So, win they must this weekend against underdog Tambunan.

Team manager, Redzuan Garin Ismail, said "If we drop any points now, this would interrupt our quest because other teams are also working hard to catch up with us.

"Moreover, the season is still a long way," he said.

Papar are six points ahead of nearest contenders Keningau with 38 points, but he does not want his players to be buoyed with dreams.

He wants the players to step on firm ground where reality is the game of the day.

"That is why we do not look down on any teams including Tambunan despite our position in the league," he said.

Garin said Tambunan may be sitting on thirteenth rung on the ladder but this makes them even more threatening.

He said Tambunan have several former State players in their side namely Yap Wai Loon, Gilbert Junior, Ian James Wong and Dominic Minci.

And the visitors, he said, surely have no intention of going home empty handed.

"For sure, they aim to bag the full three points," he said.

Despite the challenge Papar will face today (Saturday) at the Papar town field, the team is prepared.

"We are ready and the team is in good situation thanks to our patrons Datuk Juil Nuatim and Armizan Mohd Ali, the coaches including Jainin Tinin and other team officials," he said.

Papar lead the league with 44 points followed by Keningau (38), Kota Belud (34), Bandaraya (34), Kota Marudu (31), Kemabong (31) and KDM Pusat (29).

If it is any consolation to the top team, Garin said that Keningau and Kota Belud, pose as the main threat to Papar.

Keningau, also have the advantage of two matches in hand.

But irrespective of the situation, the fans would be very keen on the outcome.

Three more matches have been scheduled on Saturday and they are KDM Pusat against Sandakan (UMS Stadium, 7pm), Keningau vs Kota Marudu (Kompleks Sukan Keningau, 3.30pm) and Inanam vs Penampang B (Padang C Kompleks Sukan Kota Kinabalu, 3.30pm).

There are four matches on Sunday – Kimanis vs Kemabong (Padang Pekan Papar, 3.30pm), Penampang A vs Kota Belud (Padang B Penampang, 4pm), Putatan vs Kiulu (Stadium Likas, 4pm) and Bandaraya vs Pitas (Padang C Sukma, 4pm).
