Albright sets the early pace

Kota Kinabalu: Former champion Albright Chong set the pace in the first round of the 27th SGCC Amateur Open Championship which is being played at the Sabah Golf and Club (SGCC) on Friday.The 17-year-old fired a one-under 71 with three birdies and two bogeys to lead by one shot over Suzairi Iqmah.

In joint third place was Albright's younger brother Eldrick with Jordan Mobijon and Safarrudin Abidin in two-over 74.

In the ladies category, Hillferah Tan from University Utara Malaysia led by a shot over second place Tan Chlo Wee with a six-over-par 78 while in third place was Nurul Syahirah Nasir with a 81.

A total of 89 players are taking part in the three-day competition with 75 for the men category and 14 for the ladies.
