Sport can mould students' personalities, says Kamarlin

Ranau: Sports activities, especially among students should always be promoted in accordance with Satu Murid, Satu Sukan Policy recommended by the Ministry of Education.Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Kamarlin Ombi said the government through the Ministry of Education wanted the glory of sport returned to school since is the the main institution to develop talent at grassroots level.

"Sport is an effective method to build the noble personal qualities through discipline, patience, tolerance, punctuality, teamwork and leadership.

"In addition, aspects of health and body fitness, participation in sports should also be emphasised to produce students who are active, happy and healthy," he explained.

Kamarlin said when opening the track and field 47th State Level Majlis Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah (MSS) 2015 that was held at the Ranau Sports Complex on Wednesday.

He added that such a tournament is a stepping stone towards realising the aspiration to continue strengthening, strength and tradition of the glory of sports in the country.

"We expect athletes involved can take the opportunity through this tournament to compete in a healthy environment and highlight the capabilities of each other to the national level and represent the nation at the international level," he said.

MSS Sabah which lasted for four days starting on Tuesday will end this Saturday is participated by six contingents, namely of Utara, Sandakan, Selatan, Tenggara, Pedalaman and Barat as the host of this year's tournament.

Also present were Sabah Education Director, Datuk Jame Alip, District Education Officer as Chairman Championship, Siti Hamni Hashim, Ranau District Police Chief, DSP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah and other local leaders.
