Kota Kinabalu: A total of 49 people pledged to donate not only their eyes but also all their organs after death during the first eye donation campaign held at Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 (QEH1) here on Sunday. The Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu Host, with the cooperation of Lions Clubs in Region 5 and 6, QEH1 and the Sabah Society for the Blind, organised the campaign to encourage people to donate their eyes for a good cause after death.

Organising chairman Prof. Dr P. Muthu described the 49 pledges as a good start for the campaign.

"We are so pleased with such number of pledges and hope it will have a domino effect on others to do the same.

"The best part is that the 49 people not only pledged to donate their eyes but also all their organs," said Dr Muthu, a consultant ophthalmologist.

Meanwhile, Sabah Society for the Blind President Datuk Rosalind Chew, who was also present, said the campaign was meaningful.

She hoped the campaign would be continued in order to help the blind regain their eyesight.
