BBC documentary on our 'Flying Snake'

Kota Kinabalu: The uniqueness of a small green snake at the Sabah Agriculture Park (TPS) has prompted the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to produce a documentary.Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Radin Malleh said the documentary by BBC's Natural History Unit, which would be aired worldwide, would be a platform to promote TPS and boosts its potential and the district of Tenom as tourism centres."Congratulations to TPS on the recognition. TPS has elevated Tenom on the world map as one of the international level environment conservation centres in this country," he said in a statement here, Sunday.

The shooting of the documentary, "The Flying Snake" for two weeks at TPS Lagud Sebrang, Tenom will show the snake's unique capability to fly and glide for 100 metres from one tree to another.Scientists of the world were also spurred to study the snake, known as Kukuo Ra'laa in the Murut Timugon language, to invest in a robot with similar capabilities.Radin said although the core business of TPS is conservation of numerous plants other than for learning purposes, the role of the location which had potential under the agrotourism concept became a catalyst for the expansion of socio-economic potential in the interior areas, specifically Tenom."I think the management of TPS can diversify its promotion strategies for tourism including cooperating with the Murut Cultural Centre, Tenom Coffee Factory and Pomelo Plantation as an attractive agro-tourism package offered by the district of Tenom to be marketed to the domestic and international markets," he said.
