Goldah, Shirley emerge champs

Kota Kinabalu: Datu Goldah Keri and Shirley Poh took the 5th Sabah Senior Amateur Open men and ladies titles held at the Borneo Golf Resort Berhad in Bongawan recently.Goldah rallied from a two-stroke deficit on the final day to pip overnight leader Ian Quek of SGCC by a solitary stroke to capture his first ever senior championship title.

The retired cop levelled the scores after an impressive one-over par 37 on the first nine and kept his momentum with a two-over par 38 on the home stretch while Ian carded a two-day total of 151 followed by Tan Lin whose final day score of four-over par 76 propelled him to third place from 11th placing on the opening round.

In fourth paced losing on count back was former champion Jesus Arapoc who also posted a two-day total of gross 157.

Defending Champion Ng Loong Fah of SGCC failed to retain the title after a brilliant opening round of two-over par 74 as he fumbled on the final day with blemish on his scores cards on the back nine to managed only 9th placing.

Meanwhile, Shirley Poh of Labuan International Golf Club easily won the ladies title after an impressive two-day total of 151, twelve strokes ahead of Irene Teng of Tropicana Golf & Country Club followed by Agnes Hiew from Pantai Menteri Golf Club Brunei.

The Nett event was won by twenty-two handicapper Razlee Kading from Kudat Golf Club with his two-day nett score of 129, edging fellow member Thomas Kalling by one stroke followed by James Mandasa of Kinabalu Golf Club.

Veteran golfer Graham Steel of SGCC carded a two-day net score of 138 to win the Super Senior category over last year's winner Chau Soon Pai who managed a total nett score of 147.

The ladies Nett event was won by Rokiah Datuk Hj Yusuf from SGCC with 137 and the runner up spot went to Suzie Lee of Saujana Golf & Country Club (138) followed by Lydia Liew from Tawau Golf Club at 140.

In the Invitees/Sponsors event, Peter Tan from the host club carded a five-under nett 67 to emerge champion while Tawau Golf Club Lydia Liew came in second at nett 68 and followed by third placed Nicky Chong of Kinabalu Golf Club at 70.

A welcoming dinner was organised on the opening day attended by the guest of honour Datuk Nurnikman Abdullah in the presence of SGA Deputy President Martin Chin and Datuk CK Tan president of Borneo Golf Resort Berhad.
