Kuching: The High Court on Tuesday sentenced a 24-year-old fishmonger to death by hanging for killing two British medical students, here, after a row on Aug 6 last year. Judge Chew Soo Ho imposed the sentence on Zulkipli Ahmad of Kampung Gersik in Petra Jaya after finding him guilty of stabbing to death Aiden Brunger, 23, and Neil Gareth Dalton, 22, between 4.10am and 4.15am at a bus stop in Abell Road.

The two fourth-year Newcastle University (UK) students were on a six-week practical training at the Sarawak General Hospital.

Zulkipli faced two charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Chew said the prosecution had proven the charges beyond any reasonable doubt while the Zulkipli's defence was riddled with inconsistencies and improbabilities.

He said from evidence given he was convinced the accused alone had attacked the two victims although he was with three other friends then.

Zulkipli was defended by an assigned counsel Anthony Tai while DPP Mohd Iskandar Ahmad appeared for the prosecution, assisted by Poh Yin Tinn.

Also present in the packed court were Brunger's father and officials from the British High Commission who declined to speak to the press. - Bernama
