Kuching: About 200 students of a private institution of higher learning here have been left in the lurch after the education centre ceased operations last September.Three of the students, along with their parents, Monday met with Sarawak Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah at her office here to lodge a complaint and have requested her to find a solution.

Speaking to reporters later, she said she understood the 200 students were not officially informed that the institution had ceased operations.

"As a result, the students had not attended any class since September," said Fatimah, who is also minister in charge of education affairs in Sarawak.

According to the minister, the college premises had been sealed by its owner because the rental fees had reportedly not been settled.

Meanwhile, Fatimah advised those affected to apply for courses in other colleges and that she would provide a letter of support to the National Higher Education Fund to enable them to receive a new loan. – Bernama
