Discussions on re-sending Sabah students to Egypt

Kota Kinabalu: Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, said discussions will continue with relevant parties on sending Sabahan students back to continue their education in Egypt after their studies were disrupted in 2011. Many Sabahan students studying in Egypt had to return home from the strife-torn country following anti-government protests seeking the removal of President Hosni Mubarak from Jan 25, 2011. Ariffin, who visited Egypt recently, explained there are still many Sabahan students abroad taking religious studies, adding this would become a cornerstone to elevate Islamic shariah in the State.

He said this when officiating the SMA Toh Puan Hajah Rahmah 2014 graduation ceremony, here, Wednesday. Arifin called for the State Religious Affairs Department (Jheains) to provide a module to help teach students the best way to propagate Islamic teachings."Following several meetings with some Islamic non-governmental organisations, I was informed that there were many graduates in the religious field who do not propagate Islamic teachings. "Upon reviewing the matter, there seems to have several factors that had caused them to be less involved in religious activities and among them is the lack of exposure of the students to speaking and dealings with the public."
