Maktab Sabah stamps mark on world stage
Kota Kinabalu: Maktab Sabah has made itself known on the world stage, thanks to its students' excellent performance both in academic pursuits and extra-curricular activities.According to its Super Principal Nuinda Alias the implementation of various programmes at the school led to such success.

"This is in line with the government's effort to produce first class human capital who are highly educated and competitive," she said during the presentation of Students' Excellence Award at the school's hall here, Wednesday.

"Earlier this year, Maktab Sabah had signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with Cheondo High School in Korea and we will be having an international programme known as the 'Bacabah Programme' (Balestiere Hill Secondary School, Cakra Buana and Maktab Sabah Programme) with Singapore and Indonesia from May 25-29 this year.

"The school through the cultural dance field had emerged champion in the 'Dance World Cup Competition' in Paris in 2011, Austria in 2012, Brighton, England in 2013 and Portugal in 2014," she said, adding that it has become one of their niches.

In terms of academic, Nuinda explained that Maktab Sabah had produced two best students last year.

"They are Idayu Mumtaz Iskandar who scored 11As (9A+, 2A-) in his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination and O'nell Abraham Gapitar who scored 4As in his Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM).

"Idayu was one of the top ten best students in the State whereas O'nell was the third best student in Sabah," she said.

The success achieved by the school was supported by the Parents and Teachers' Association (PTA), Old Sabah Collegian Association (Osca) and Non-Government Organisations (NGO).

"This is based on the 9th shift of the Malaysian Education Development Plan (PPPM) which required cooperation between parents, PTA, community and private sector for the benefit of their children at school," she explained.

The event which was launched by State Education Director Datuk Jame Alip, who was represented by Academic Management Sector Chief Datuk Dr. Mohd Kassim Mohd Ibrahim, saw 243 students receiving the Student's Excellence Award in various fields.
