Birds nest to China nets RM2b

Putra Jaya: The export of bird's nest to China last year reached 145 metric tonnes worth close to RM2 billion, said Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. He said the total export of bird's nest to China was expected to grow this year with the increase in the number of approved processing plants as well as those that would be approved by the Chinese authorities."Industry development statistics estimate that over 40,000 bird's nest premises have been built and operational since 2008.ADVERTISEMENT "To date, the Department of Veterinary Services has successfully registered some 10,330 bird's nest premises, and is expected to register at least 25,000 premises towards 2020," he said.Ismail Sabri said this in his speech at the launch of a seminar and general meeting of the Bumiputera Bird's Nest Industry Association here, Wednesday. He said the association which was registered on March 23, 2015 would become the cooperation platform, sharing of technology and marketing information among the Bumiputera operators. "This will provide the solutions in the face of challenges and overcome the prevailing obstacles in the industry towards taking the lead in the global bird's nest market," he added. –Bernama
