Keningau: The villagers of Kg Taman Rakyat, here, decided to get together and chop down a tree that was blocking an electric wire after repeated appeals to the SESB office to do something failed. According to village spokesman Fazli Ganing, said the tree would usually pass electricity to the flooded land during rainy days."We complained to the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) about five times already but no action was taken."They promised to help us but never sent anyone to chop down the tree," he said, adding that it had already been about 100 days since they lodged a complaint.ADVERTISEMENT Therefore, he said for the safety of the villagers especially children, the head of village and chairman of the village security and development committee (JKKK) decided to hold a meeting on March 29 to find ways to solve the problem."Even though they had promised to cooperate with us to chop down the tree but they fail to take action towards the matter."Therefore, we have decided to hold a gotong-royong and take opportunity during this dry season to chop down the tree," he said, adding that they had also complained to the People's Representative. However, he said the People's Representative would only visit the site and refused to take any action.ADVERTISEMENT "We understand that this is a small matter but we take it seriously because we are worried over the safety of the public especially during rainy season," he said, adding that there were cases whereby chickens and ducks had died of electrocution."I hope that this matter will be set as an example to the Government and take the problems faced by the people seriously," he added.
