K'batangan murder: Hunt for two men

Kota Kinabatangan: Police are on the hunt for two men in their 20s for robbing and murdering an oil palm plantation manager and wounding another at the Tung Sang Plantation in Jalan Sukau in Kinabatangan on Monday. Estate manager Yuen Wing Wah, 65, was shot dead and the owner, Danny Wong, 34, seriously injured when he was shot in the abdomen and buttocks by the two gunmen in a payroll grab at the oil palm estate at about 3.30pm on April 13.State Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman, during a charity visit to the Sabah Women and Children's Hospital in Likas here Thursday, said Wong is recuperating and reported to be in stable condition.ADVERTISEMENT "A manhunt has been launched to track down the two gunmen at sea, river and land," he said, adding that the duo have been identified and are believed to be still in the State. Preliminary investigations showed the duo had worked in the oil palm plantation for close to two years."Investigations also showed that they were familiar with the premises which made it easy for them to enter the office without being suspected," he said. It was reported that Yuen and Wong were at the office on the first floor, shortly after they brought some RM30,000 meant for the payroll when two shots were heard at about 3.30pm on April 13. A supervisor identified only as Arolin, who was on the ground floor, rushed to the office where he found Wong sprawled on the flood while the motionless Yuen lying in a pool of blood. ADVERTISEMENT The duo were rushed to the district hospital where Yuen was pronounced dead upon arrival while Wong was sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit following an operation. Two bullets (a .38 and a Colt 45) were recovered from the two workers' quarters. On another note, Jalaluddin said his visit to the hospital was part of several programmes held in conjunction with the 208th Police Day anniversary.

The visit was also attended by Perkep members led by State Perkep Chairwoman Datin Siti Aishah Haron who were greeted by the hospital's Dr Tan Bee Hwai who briefed them about the hospital and its roles. A total of 178 patients also received donations from the State police contingent during the visit. Earlier, Jalaluddin also attended a blood donation drive organised by the State police contingent in collaboration with the State Perkep and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at Penampang. Jalaluddin said they hoped to gather 650 blood donors this year compared to 287 donors last year in the campaign held from 9am to 3pm.
