Families of two Sabah greats receive donations

Kota Kinabalu: The families of two national athletes from Sabah have received cash donations from the National Athletes Welfare Foundation (Yakeb) during its second series visit to the State at Likas Sports Complex here on Friday.Former national footballer and athlete, the late Peter Rajah and the late Jaikol Gubal received donation of RM30,000 each that was presented to their family members by Yakeb Chief, Datuk Jamil Salleh.

"The main objective of this visit was to hand over donations to the families of the two late former national athletes whereby both of them have made the country proud during their time," he said to reporters during the ceremony's press conference.

He said as Yakeb is a welfare foundation that takes care of former national athletes' well being, it is their main priority to help the family members of the late athletes.

"Other than donating to athletes that passed away, we also took care of the welfare for ailing athletes where most of them are elderly citizens.

"Yakeb also assist current national athletes in furthering their studies as well as helping the natural disaster affected athletes such as the recent flood incident in Terengganu and Kelantan," he added.

He urged capable bodies and parties out there to help Yakeb financially in supporting these national athletes who in need for help.

Also present at the ceremony was Youth and Sports Ministry Permanent Secretary, Datuk Suzannah Liaw.
