Kuala Lumpur: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Thursday had a first-hand experience boarding the Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) RapidKL LRT and monorail trains. The Sultan arrived at the Kelana Jaya LRT Station and was briefed by Prasarana chairman Tan Sri Ismail Adam and group managing director Azmi Abdul Aziz before boarding the Putra LRT train that went through nine stations to KL Sentral.

On arrival at KL Sentral, His Highness was greeted by Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar and MRCB Group managing director Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.

The delegation continued their tour by taking the new four-car monorail train near KL Sentral Station before proceeding to Bukit Nanas Station.

The royal spokesperson said the visit was scheduled as per His Highness' speech at the Selangor State Assembly sitting earlier this month.

"His Highness expressed his concern over the public transport and since three quarters of the LRT line extended through the state, he wanted to experience the ride himself," he told reporters.

He said Sultan Sharafuddin praised Prasarana for a well-done job operating the public transport system and hoped the people could make full use of the public transport as it was considered to be environmental friendly.

Meanwhile, Azmi said the construction of the new LRT Line 3 (LRT3) would commence early next year and expected to be completed by 2020.

He said LRT3 would start from the Sri Pentas MRT in Bandar Utama and end at Johan Setia in Klang, and would comprise 25 new stations.

Azmi said the Ampang LRT extension project would be fully completed by the end of October and begin operating in November.

The four new stations are Awan Besar, Alam Sutera, Muhibah and Kinrara BK5. – Bernama
