Lahad Datu: The State Government will not sell People's Housing Project (PPR) units to the tenants at present, said State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor.He said a study conducted by the Ministry showed that only a few tenants could afford to buy the houses. "If we sell the houses, they (tenants) need to have commitment with the bank and the amount of monthly instalments could increase which is burdensome to them. "Therefore, we are not ready to sell these houses but will review this matter from time to time," he said after the handing over of house keys at Taman Khazanah Indah in Jalan Tungku, near here, Sunday.

Earlier in his speech, Hajiji reminded housing developers of their commitment to complete projects entrusted to them.He said the developers' failure would translate into losses for stakeholders."Housing developers must ensure that projects under them do not encounter problems that would lead to abandoned projects, creating losses for many parties," he said.Hajiji said providing quality and affordable homes for the Malaysian population particularly the lower income group was part of the Government's social agenda.

"Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad initiated the project in 2007 and appointed a contractor.
