Kuala Lumpur: The venue for the SEA Games contingent's final phase of centralised training camp from May 22-24, has been shifted from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Puncak Alam to IOI Palm Garden Resort Hotel in Putrajaya.Malaysian contingent chef-de-mission (CDM) Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said the decision to change the venue for the 600 athletes involved in the games was made after considering a number of factors.

"After paying a visit to inspect the venue at UiTM in Puncak Alam, one of the factors of concern is the distance. We are also worried about the dengue problem.

"Our aim is to provide a conducive environment and accommodation for the athletes. I would also like to remind the athletes that it is compulsory for all athletes to attend the centralised camp," he said after meeting athletes from archery, swimming, taekwondo and water-ski at the National Sports Institute (ISN), here Friday.

The centralised training camp was initially planned at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai, Johor, from May 28-30, but changed to Kuala Lumpur due to logistics problems.

Norza said the National Sports Council will use the services of a number of facilitators to manage the camp.

"The centralised training camp is to boost team spirit and camaraderie among athletes who are from different sports," he said.

The CDM also urged athletes to maintain their integrity and discipline at all times so that the overall performance of the contingent would not be interrupted or affected while coaches, managers and other officials in charge must also monitor their respective athletes.

The Singapore SEA Games from June 5-16 will feature 37 sports, including floor ball, a sport similar to hockey, while karate was dropped. – Bernama
