Tuaran: Four local men aged between 32 and 47 were detained for suspected involvement in five break-in cases reported in the district since June last year. The five cases were reported in Taman Berungis, Taman Perdana, Taman Hartamas, Pusat Anak Permata Negara and the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) office between June, 2014 and March this year.

District Police Chief DSP Abdul Fuad Abd Malek, in a media conference here Friday, said police mounted an "Ops Cantas Pintu" in an all-out effort to address break-in cases in the district.

"Our team went all out to nab the men and managed to catch them between April 17 and April 20," he said, adding that most of them are self-employed.

"Police seized several items including three televisions, 38 laptops and a safe stolen from the SESB office, with the total estimated value being RM50,000," he said.

He said the modus operandi used by the group is to wait until nobody is inside the premises before entering by breaking the door grill.

"We are investigating whether they are involved in other break-in cases in the district," he said, adding that police are on the hunt for two members of the group believed to be the masterminds.

On that note, he thanked the community for channelling information and hoped such cooperation would continue.

He also reminded the community to check before buying any items which are sold at a very low price.

"If you suspect something amiss, immediately check with the police because having stolen items in your possession is also an offence," he said.

On another development, police have also detained a 23-year-old local unemployed man after nine packets containing substance believed to be syabu weighing 13 grammes were found on him.

Abdul Fuad said the man was nabbed at a premises in a housing area in Kg Laya-Laya at about 8am on April 20, adding that the substance is estimated to be worth RM3,500.

The man who tested positive for syabu is believed to have been active in drug pushing activities since last year and is still awaiting trial for a previous drug abuse case.
