80 Sarawak firms bag RM350m contracts from Petronas

Kuching: A total of 80 Sarawak companies have secured RM350 million worth of contracts from Petronas in the first quarter of this year, said Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem.He said Petronas had recently agreed to award RM2.1 billion of contracts this year to local firms as a part of cooperation to address the royalty issue and to enable a bigger participation by Sarawak in the oil and gas industry."The petroleum royalty issue and negotiations with the Federal Government is a matter close to the hearts of every Sarawakian. ADVERTISEMENT Sarawak will continue to negotiate to find resolutions to request for higher oil and gas royalties."I will continue to pursue the matter until there is a positive response," he said at the Petronas Outstanding Vendor Award (OVA) ceremony, here Friday.The award is a recognition accorded by Petronas to 13 of its contractors for their exemplary performance in health, safety and environment, reliability, responsiveness and respectability. Petronas also hold a symbolic presentation of contract awards to 80 local contractors who have won contracts in the first quarter of this year from Petronas's operating units in Sarawak such as Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd and Asean Bintulu Fertiliser Sdn Bhd. Adenan said he had spoken to the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) for better royalty for the state's oil and gas sector.
