Kuala Lumpur: The employment market is still robust despite the anticipated hiring downtrend in the second half of this year.JobStreet.com Country Manager Chook Yun Yng said employers were expected to reduce hiring in the second half of the year due to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) implementation where many employers believed they would be affected.

"But what we see is that employers are still hiring and there's an increase of four per cent in job postings in the first quarter (Q1) of 2015 compared to Q1 2014.

"There are currently 32,012 job offers on Jobstreet.com even as we speak, as shown on the website," she told a press conference after the launch of the Malaysia Career and Training Fair (MCTF) 2015 here Friday.

Recently, Jobstreet.com released a survey analysis on the Job Outlook Q2 2015, which revealed that 41 per cent of employers said they are hiring less in the second half of 2015, compared to 14 per cent in the same period in 2014.

The opening ceremony was launched by the Director of Enforcement, Labour Department Paeza Rosdi, SEEK Asia Chief Executive Officer Peter Everingham and AIC Exhibitions Sdn Bhd Managing Director Datuk William Ng.

In his welcoming remarks, Everingham said that the incredible support from job seekers and employers for MCTF reassured JobStreet.com to keep pursuing its mission of "Improving Lives Through Better Careers".

"The event has consistently brought in crowds of over 100,000 people each time in the past years, which puts JobStreet.com as one of the leading expertise in the employment market," he said.

JobStreet.com is now part of the SEEK Group, comprising a strong portfolio of employment, education and volunteer businesses, spanning countries in Southeast Asia and Africa, Australia, New Zealand, China, Brazil, Mexico and Bangladesh.

Chook said being a part of SEEK Group was a positive development for the JobStreet.com.

"This means that we will have even more expertise in product development and extending our reach to more countries," she said.

The job fair organised by JobStreet.com is held from Friday to April 26, featuring 160 companies.

It is expected to attract over 120,000 job seekers nationwide. – Bernama
