Langkawi: The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) is a force to be reckoned with, especially so after achieving the "Blue Water Navy" status, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman. He said the excellence and authority shown by the navy when carrying out duties and responsibilities to keep peace and sovereignty, particularly off Sabah waters, is undeniable.

Musa, who was represented by Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad, said this at the launching of the Navy Open Day held in conjunction with the 81st Navy Anniversary, here, Sunday.

Among those who attended the ceremony held on KD Perak were State Navy Commander Rear Admiral Datuk Mohammad Rosland Omar and KD Perak Commanding Officer Commander Noor Azizi Abdullah.

Musa said the development and modernisation achieved by the naval arm is something to be proud of.

"The State government and Sabah people are indeed grateful and appreciate the navy for the sacrifices and dedication in upholding the country's sovereignty, particularly off Sabah waters," he added.

He said the preparedness shown by the navy, particularly in Sabah, proved that defending the country's sovereignty and maritime is among the main mission of the force, apart from continuously sending assets in operations conducted off Sabah waters.

Musa, however, said that when it comes to security and sovereignty, elements of participation, cooperation and support from the community are also equally important.

"I urge everyone to continue to be best friend to our enforcement team to stop any element that tries to jeopardise peace and security in the country, particularly in Sabah," he said.

Meanwhile, the Navy Open Day, which opened its doors to visitors on Saturday, recorded a total of 1,170 visitors at press time.

The event, which began as early as 8am, featured various activities such as boat ride and flying fox, as well as numerous food stalls selling beverages and snacks.

Visitors also had the chance to enjoy meals on one of the five navy vessels opened to visitors.

Visitors also had the opportunity to witness an exercise demonstration by personnel from the Naval Special Warfare Forces during the launching ceremony.
