Tambunan: Stiff challenge is expected from the interior districts when they go head to head in the 2015 Interior Cup Boxing Tournament this weekend.Tournament Organising Chairman Fabian Tonny Peter said the Tambunan District Boxing Association, Nabawan, Keningau and host, Tenom, have all confirmed their participation.

"The tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm, at the Tenom Antenom Community Hall. We expect the boxing fans from everywhere to come to the much anticipated tournament". Tenom District Officer, Madiyem Layapan will officiate.

Included is a match between Tambunan Women boxers and the Tenom Women boxers.

Meanwhile, Fabian who is also Tambunan District Boxing Association chairman and the coach said his team would rely on a number well-known boxers to bring glory back to his side.

"We hope to get the victory through Willy AK Singgom the Gold Medal winner in SAGA 2013 and winner of the Sabah Open, Caprie Yan who was the winner of 2014 Interior Tournament, Elvis Hendry and Renddal Kadayum who are now on the list of chosen trainee Representing the State.

"We are confident of four gold medals and bring back to Tambunan the Interior Cup which was won previously by Keningau.

"Based on experience, we recognise the challenges faced in this prestigious tournament and we want to maintain confidence at a high level and optimism," said Fabian, who he is also former Sabah boxer.

Meanwhile, Fabian expressed disappointment that the Tambunan contingent was not given any funds for the purchase of tracksuit by the political leaders in Tambunan , although a request had been sent earlier.

"We are disappointed because while the the Tambunan Boxing team has brought glory to the district, no appreciation was given to us. It seems that Political interests are being thrown into the Sport of Boxing," he said with exasperation.

In the meantime Fabian also are looking forward to boxing enthusiasts especially from around Tenom and Kemabong to witness the inaugural tournament that will be held in their yard.

"Tickets are RM3.00 per person but the arrival of the public are much welcomed as this will give moral support to young boxers as well as enliven our next tournament," he explained.
