Ranau: Sabah Human Rights Association President Lee Pun Yee attended a dialogue with homestay operators, village chiefs, Village Security and Development Committees and Kg Kipungit villagers on April 12 to discuss problems faced by the villagers. It was pointed out to Lee during the discussions that the road to Kinabalu Poring Vacation Lodge was under the jurisdiction of the Ranau District Office.

All present agreed that the Kg Kipungit/Poring/Giuk road should be upgraded as the road was a main tourist road.

The road which was winding and unpaved, made road travel difficult for motorists and villagers alike.

Lee expressed his disappointment that Upko Ranau Deputy Chief and Paginatan Assemblyman Datuk Siringan Gubat and Ranau District Officer Faimin Kamin were not present.

He supports fully the suggestions of the villagers as the upgrading of the roads can affect the economy of the villagers and strengthen the tourism sector there.

Lee also said that his association will bring the matter up to the office of Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

He feels that the Ranau District Office has a responsibility and obligation towards the problems faced by the people.

As such he promised to take follow up action to ensure the upgrading of the road will be carried out in the nearest time.
